  1. Any business which I know I have thorough Knowledge about. Read this article with a lot of insight for beginning a new small business. Its also listed in Wikipedia and is a Quick tips tool.

  2. i would love to have some sort of a sports bar.

You know the kinda place where everybody knows your name and they are always glad you came!!!!

  3. I would do something nobody or at the most, few have tried before you.  Something different.  What that is, I am not sure yet.

  4. Something to do with computers cos its the only thing I know.

  5. I would love to start a dog-sitting business. I would offer both day-to-day sitting for people who just don't want to leave their dogs alone while they're at work, and also offer longer-term and overnight sitting for people on vacation, people in the hospital, etc.

These dogs would not just sit in cages all day like they do at so many boarding kennels...I would like there to be a large play yard, and long supervised play sessions throughout the day. My dogs love to play in their little pool, so I would probably put one or two of those in the yard for hot days too. And we have very harsh winters here, so I would also like there to be an indoor area big enough for the dogs to play in.

The places the dogs would stay when not playing or receiving attention would be much larger than an ordinary cage (smallest would be around 10x10, and I would also offer some larger rooms for very big dogs, or for people with multiple dogs who wanted them housed together), and would have a comfortable bed, as well as blankets and chews. I would get a few cheap, used washers and dryers to deal with the no-doubt huge laundry load I'd have!

I would also offer offer extra services like bathing and nail clipping. These would be free with the dog's stay if the owner wanted them. I would also like to offer professional grooming for an extra fee, but as I have no experience with that, I would have to hire someone. Perhaps grooming would only be available on certain days of the week or something. This would save me from having to pay a full-time employee.

The best part is that I would be able to take my own dogs to work with me everyday!

Of course, this is my "dream scenario," and maybe I wouldn't be able to make everything work out exactly like this, especially not right away. But if I was handed several hundred thousand dollars tomorrow, this is what I would try to do with it.

We don't have anything even resembling this in my city, but I know there are people who would use a service like this (and I'm one of them!). I think it would be reasonably successful, and dogs are one of my big passions in life, but I just don't have the money I need to get started (and for what I'm picturing, I would need quite a bit). Maybe someday!

  6. Starting a business goes hand in hand with how honest a person is. Most people's glorified assumptions of starting their own business doesn't take into account the myriad of mind numbing problems that will arise. But if one truly, TRULY LOVES!!! what their business is about, then success is imminent.

This may sound like pop psychology about business 101, but trust me, it is the basic reason why some make it and many fail. Most people just believe that they love what they're business provides and when put to the test buckle and fall. It's one of those "facts" the SBA or many other organizations don't talk about. The psychology of the entrepreneur is that of one who firmly believes in what she/he id doing.

Then...get busy, LEARNING...A LOT...A HECK OF A LOT!!! Don't be too romantic about the business (Although, keep some romance around...it keeps the gumption going when things get ridiculous and they will.). Learn about business (I know, extremely boring, BUT ESSENTIAL, HIGHLY, CRTICALLY, MASSIVELY ESSENTIAL!!!). Learn about accounting (Same as in last brackets.). Learn about people...people are the reason your selling a service/product/etc...and who'll you'll be hiring (Possibly.) to do the tasks you can't possibly do...and for God's sakes delegate your time. There's nothing that ruins a business faster than the creator of the business thinking she/he is a superhero that doesn't need a bathroom break (Or God forbid a break period) occasionally.

But most importantly, DO CREATE A BUSINESS SURROUNDING WHAT YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE, NOT LIKE, LOVE.

I love sound, thus I own a business that deals in sound. And yes, a successful one.

Sounds corny? LOVE? Try the other route. It'll suck!!! I know many who been there...notice "been".

Good hunting of your own honest appraisal of what you'd love to contribute to our planet,

    Wolfy
