I am looking to buy a camcorder that uses HD. I am looking at the canon hg10.

IT says that it is an HDTV and AVCHD. What do these terms mean?

I just want to do some indoor and outdoor recording and bring it onto the website... I am sure this camcorder can do the job? What is HDTV AND AVCHD stand for?

my previous camcorder was the sony dcr sr82 and I wasn't satisfied with the video quality. How good is the canon hg 10?

  1. avchd =advanced video codec high definition

  2. The Canon HG10 is an HD camcorder that records high definition video  to a hard disc drive (HDD) in the AVCHD format.    Yahoo does not allow us to post the link to Canon's website about this camera.  You have to find it on your own.

AVCHD is a video codec for recording 'full' HD video and compressing it so tightly that it fits into a space smaller than the same video recorded to HDV or miniDV tape.  http://motionpicturecentral.com/forum/wh...

    * You will need to upgrade your editing program to one that handles AVCHD files (an extra cost you will need to also budget for).  If you can not afford this, then you need to purchase an HD camcorder that records to HDV or miniDV; otherwise, you may have recordings from the HG10 that you may not be able to edit on your computer.

HD TV is High Definition Television.  High definition comes in different resolutions from 1280x720, 1440x1080 (for storage on HDV and miniDV), to 1920x1080.  Almost all HD TV providers broadcast in 1280x720 at this time since most people don't have the higher-end tvs, computer monitors, or video cards capable of handling 'full' HD at 1920x1080
