What kind of camera is the best kind?

so my mom and i want to get my brother a camera since he has been gone fr a year with his dad. what kind of camera should we get? like i said he is a BOY and he is 15 years old we dont want to get him something kiddish. any suggestions?

If you are an amateur and want to just take pictures for fun, I suggest a Canon Powershot with 7 megapixels or above. If you are wanting to get into photography as a profession, a Canon EOS 30D or 5D is great ... they are great cameras to get started with professionally. There is a lot of info on the web to help you learn inexpensively. Nikons are great ... their lenses are amazing, too. Personally, I prefer the Canon cameras, but the Nikon lenses. I use a Canon, though. I just began 2 years ago, but am already doing Actor's headshots for agencies.

i think canons are really cool. get the digital ixus range cos they are really compact.

If you think he's going to demolish the thing, consider the Olympus SW series, such as the Stylus 1030 SW.  Otherwise, I recommend Canon's ELPH (compact cameras) for a good balance of design and image quality.  The Canon SD1100 can be had for $190 these days and it comes in 5 colors or so.
