Question:

What kind of camera stand is right for me?

I have a Canonzr830 and would like to purchase a camera stand for around the house and for use in my front and back yard. I don't need to best in terms of stability and would look to keep price low if possible. Other than that, I don't know anything else about camera stands, such as if they are universal. Any suggestions?

  1. They haven't made camera stands for decades.  What you need is a tripod, one that is sturdy enough to hold the weight of your camera and any other camera you may buy later on in life (like a DSLR and a few lenses).  It is more economical to buy a good used tripod than a cheap new one.

Look on craigslist in a city near you for a good tiltall, Gitzo, Bogan, Slick or other pro level tripod.

  2. These are camera stands: http://www.nextag.com/Camera-Accessories... great for the studio, but not outside. Though I hear they quit making them, these must be NOS.

Maybe you mean a tripod. Visit a camera store where you can put your hands on them and see what the differences are. That is the only way to find what will work for you.
