oops, I should mention that the area we plan to use it in is pretty calm, a huge inlet/bay, sheltered from big waves.

  1. I would think twice about canoeing in the ocean, unless it's the Gulf of Mexico. Especially with a toddler. They capsize pretty easily.

  2. The ocean is a dangerous place for open canoes.  A large canoe will be less apt to upset.  An aluminum canoe may be best. They are rigid and not easily collapsed. You need good flotation and some way to float the toddler. Ocean canoeing  is different than river canoeing. The waves move and the water stays in place.  Boaters have added buoyancy tubes to the outside of their boats to help stability concerns. Be careful...

  3. canoe not good idea with toddle-they make a canoe called river rouge-its plastic lot heavier with wider bottom-not as easy to flip- with any canoe waves from side will flip so fast-i own one
