  1. This happened to me once and basicly all you can do is pay your collision deductable as though you crashed into to someone.

What a stupid insurance rule so unless the damage exceeds your deductable for collision you pay for it yourself like i did.

  2. Unless the hit and runner is found, you would need collision insurance to have your car fixed in this situation.  Having Just liability (not a good idea) will not protect your property, it just protects others properties

  3. Different plans will have different details, but if you've got minimum coverage. (ie: liability) then no. Look thru your plan carefully though. It's impossible for folks here to say there's not a detail in it that'll get you fixed up.

An example could be Uninsured Motorist coverage. Way back, I had a similar event. I did'nt bother making an official claim cause w/out witnesses, or comprehensive/collision (where YOUR company fixed YOUR car) I figured I was hosed. Turns out that my family had UnInsured motorist coverage. THAT covered the repairs.

Who knows? It SOUNDS like you're gonna be left holding the bag w/repairs, but.. ?

  4. Not knowing your plan, when dealing strictly with liability, your insurance will not cover any damage done to your car. Only damage that you do to someone elses that you are "liable" to pay for. I'd call my insurance provider though to make sure. Sorry, that sucks. Happened to me once too so don't feel too bad.

  5. You can't apply insurance to an accident that already happened.  If all you have is liablity, you're pretty screwed.

But hey, at least you got to make some new friends, right?

  6. I don't understand why people buy only what is legal to get the car on the road, and don't ask for an explanation.  I am an insurance broker, and I have never let a client leave my office without an explanation.  This is also why people should never buy insurance on-line unless they have training in the insurance field.

Liability coverage is not dime one insurance for your car, or for you.  It is coverage only for damage you do to others.  Unfortunately, you will have to repair the vehicle yourself.  In future, deal with an agent that explains not only coverages, but limitations.

    Collision/upset - self-explanatory

Comprehensive - pretty much everything that isn't collision or upset.

Liability - coverage for damage you cause.

Uninsured/underinsured motorist - covers you for damage done to you over and above their liability coverage, or by a motorist with no insurance.

That is an extremely basic run-down, don't anybody read it and think they know all about auto insurance, please.

  7. I am no gonna say I am one hundred sure about it.Besides it really depends on the personal feelings.SO it would better for you to find yourself. Here is a good resource.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  8. Many states require uninsured motorist coverage.  Even where it's not mandatory, it's usually very cheap.  UIM will cover you against hit-and-run drivers as well as the idiots that drive without insurance.

    Take care.

  9. I used to work for an auto insurance co, and I have to tell you, if you have liability only, it means you pay (or your insurance co pays) if you are liable for someone else's damage.  If you do not have collision on your policy, then your insurance co cannot pay to repair your car.  Whenever an agent tells you you are fully covered, that means only liabiliyt bc that is the  minimum requirement for most states.  People often think this means they have EVERYTHING, like rental car benefits, towing, comprehensive, collision, etc. but that is not what it means.  Unfortunaltye it looks like you will have to pay for this yourself, unless your insurance co can track down the person who did the hit and run, in that case, you would file a claim with the hit and run driver's insurance co.  Check to see if you have uninsured motorist coverage, but in order for that to kick in, i think you would still need to have collision on your policy as well.
