What kind of car should I buy / consider under 4000$?

I'm looking for a good MPG car thats under 4000$. I think a 4 cylinder would be best. I'd mostly be driving in the city, i'm hoping for atleast 25 MPG in the city.

Also, since it'd be used whats the average miles i'd want to look at? So far i've been looking at stuff with 50-65k miles.

Try a Volvo S40.  I have one, it has good gas mileage, is sporty looking, very reliable, and has AMAZING safety features!

look for

98 Acura CL, 98 Ford Mustang V6, 98 Honda Accord or Civic, 98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder, 98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy, 98 -00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00

these are all reliable and will last longer than other cars in this price range.

look for a used hyundai accent.  year 03 or 04.  Gets good miles.
