  1. why not do it the easy way and get a rock/boulder?

  2. The quickcrete brand that you get at Lowes should do fine , it comes in 40 or 80 pound bags and you just mix with water. Get a cheap playground ball from the dollar store and cut a hole just big enough to fill with concrete. you might have to wrap tape around it before you deflate it to support the mass of the concrete and keep it's shape until it's dry- and or- dig a hole big enough to put the ball about  1/2 to 3/4 the way in the ground and then pour the concrete mix in, a little on the wet side should do it, then work it in good with a strong stick or something to work out the bubbles. let it dry for a couple of day's and cut the ball off and there you go. good luck and I hoped this helped you.

  3. I say do it the easiest way and use a bowling ball.  I have done several, and they are beautiful! You have to clean the ball well, I usually use a white spray base. and fill 2 of the holes with plaster of paris..Dry a few days, and use a silicone glue to glue glass pieces, small mirror pieces, charms, jewelry, glass globs, the last one I covered with safety glass from a broken car windshield.Dry several days and grout.  There are several sites you can go to for better directions.  Just look up Gazing Balls made from bowling balls.  Good Luck!

  4. Cool !! I think I would use a premix with p-gravel. I think you could cut a hole in a basketball and pour the wet cement into that. You could shape the are at the hole by hand or leave it flat as a rest for the ball.

  5. Some interesting thoughts already.

Cut hole in and fill.Once your ready take spray like spam and give some little sprays inside (works like a releasing agent) when cutting ball off.

What concerns me is overall weight, one may consider using a high strength plaster.Oh,there are colors you can mix in.These are available at Home Depot and Lowe's.

    Good luck

  6. You can use a bag of quikcrete and a round glass fish bowl. Be sure to vibrate to fill air pockets and you will also have a flat bottom for easy placement. I would stick a long bolt out the top of the fishbowl in the concrete while wet so you can use that to set it up when it is done. after about 2 days to ensure strength maybe longer if your in no hurry and just break away the fish bowl. You can also use concrete stain to make it what ever color you want and that will last unlike paint would.

  7. Depends on the size, but if by "round" you mean "spherical", and you don't have an old dead basketball, maybe just buy an inflatable beach ball at Target, KMart or WalMart, cut a hole in it, buy a bag of premix concrete at Lowes or Home Depot, mix it real wet and pour it in.  There might be concrete fake rocks or real rocks available through a landscaping specialist.  Here in the mountains of Colorado there are rocks all over the place, but the only ones that are round come from river beds.
