Hey there,

I want to make Empanadas, Arepas & Tequeños to bring to work, but I don't know where to find (and what's the name in English) for the specific kind of cheese we use to make these in Venezuela.

We just call it "Queso Blanco", which means "White Cheese". But it's not just any kind of cheese, it's a specific cheese, kind of salty and hard.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you.

  1. The first answer is right. I checked both those sites and they are both great! If I didn't have a swell Spanish food store (I live in Seattle... We have stores of almost every nationality at The Pikes Place Market)

Nothing can beat the flavor of real fresh cheese (the farmers cheese you mentioned...) In Ecuador and Colombia we bought it at the side of the road wrapped in banana leaves. But, anyway, the Mexican "queso blanco" is close to what you want.

  2. Here is a guide to Mexican cheeses and their substitutes:

I think you may be looking for chihuaua cheese..also called queso menonita

Here is an online Spanish cheese store...
