Question:

What kind of cheese is on Doner Kebabs and what is that cucumber sauce? Delicious!?

The cheese is thick, white cheese...feta? Not sure but need to know so I can make them back here at home! And the sauce...finding different recipes online and unsure of which is correct...tasted like a cucumber-ranch sauce...SOMEONE HELP!

  1. Cucumber is called raita.


  2. The sauce is similar to tzatziki, sometime a bit smoother and more yougarty, the cheese can be a type of feta or a sheeps milk cheese also.

    I am a former chef and have had Doner Kebabs in Canada, the UK and in Asia, much the same spices can variy, and if done by native Greeks or Turks there again there are subtle differences, I like mine on a pita with sauce, pickled onions, a here in Toronto I get a soda water drink with mint/yougart in from Lebanon.
