  1. I just recently went on a carnival cruise.  You should bring dress clothes for dinner and casual clothes for the daytime.  You need to dress up for the formal dinners at night but there are other options for dinner if you do not feel like dressing up.  Other than that it is very casual and lots of fun!

  2. Depends on where your going.  If your going to Alaska, take warm cloths, if someplace tropical - take your summer stuff.

They have some formal dinners during the cruise that you would want to have your fancy party cloths for.  Other than that you can wear whatever you want.

  3. wear anything. but no shorts and vests when eating in casual reteraunts.  Smart cas dress for main resteraunts, trousers/blouse, skirt/nice top.  Formal nights little black dress, or trousers/skirt and fancy top. Mens formal is suit  & tie, or tux and dicky bow! You dont have to do the formals if you dont want too, just go elsewhere on those nights.

  4. While the cruise literature is worded strongly, they are more lax on-board.

For your "formal" night, you will see everything from a little black dress to long evening dresses. Gentlemen in dark suits and tuxs.  However, they gave my Dad no trouble when he arrived in a sports jacket, cowboy hat, dark jeans and boots.

There is a rule about no shorts/tanks in the dining room at dinner.  This is the sit-down dining room.  You can wear shorts/tanks to dinner in the buffet dining room.

Cover-ups over swmsuits are required while inside, especially in the eating areas.

For dinners, I wear casual skirts, capris, Chico's travelers.  On formal nights, I have a collection of black dresses (without a waistband....)  A good time to buy the dresses is just after Christmas when all of the holiday dresses go on sale or just after Easter...

Take one pair of shoes (like clear w/rhinestones) that will match all of your evening outfits.  There is precious little closet space while on board...also..take a power strip.  There is only one outlet in the room.

  5. You can dress up as much or as little as you like. There will be formal nights, wear what you would on New Years Eve. Ive been on 8 cruises and always pack too much. Bring at least 2 swimsuits (I hate putting on wet ones). a couple pair of shorts and tanks and clothes for dinner, if you don't want to dress up you can always eat at the buffet. Bring a light jacket or sweater for the nights and the dining room which seems a little cool for me. You can always pick up shirts while on the islands so really less clothes are OK. I always come home with an suitcase full of clean clothes.

You can also pack "bar clothes" if you want to dress up to drink, if not put on your shorts and drink by the pool. Have fun amd enjoy

  6. Clothes to buy? Be sure that you have suitable attire for where the ship is going. That may mean that you have to buy nothing.

IMO, Carnival is one of the least particular lines about attire. Officially, no shorts or shirts without collars in the main dining room at dinner, although it's OK at lunch and breakfast. On formal nights (only), they recommend suit and tie, sport coat, or tie and slacks for men; evening gown; cocktail dress, or pantsuit for women.

I've seen folks break the rules and get away with it. Out of respect for your fellow pax, don't. If you can't live with the dress code, eat at the buffet.

In general, most folks tend to overpack. On one 8-day trip, a dinner mate took 20 pairs of shoes! IMO, it's not worth the hassel. Take only what you know you will use. If you have more than one formal night on your trip, consider using the same outfit on both nights. If you really get stuck, there are self-laundries and a laundry service on every ship. In addition, many folks tend to buy souvenir wearables at the various ports of call or ship shops.
