My baby's due in September, and I wanted to go shopping for some clothese for my baby, but I don't know what to get.

Should I get t-shirts and onesies or outfits? What would the baby most likely be doing in the first 3 months of life?

  1. I personally don't like the snaps in the back because the baby is often lying on his/her back so I think it would be uncomfortable.  You also want "sleepers"---the fuzzy pajamas with feet esp. since you'll be coming up on  the winter months.  You need some washcloths for the spitup and hats and socks.  I wouldn't worry about shoes.

  2. T-Shirts are not very helpful for a little infant.  Onesies are better because they help hold the little ones diaper in place.  We hardly used the t-shirts until after age 2 for our two boys.

  3. I agree with the first answer.  My son was either sleeping, nursing or getting his diaper changed for most of the time.  We had some outfits like overalls, jeans, and shirts that didn't snap in the crotch that just weren't practical.  The adult style shirts never stay tucked in and baby's belly hangs out.  I would stick to onesies and soft pants with a loose elastic waist (not stiff jeans).  We also had a couple pairs of leggings that my son wore all the time over his onesies.  Also the one piece outfits with snaps all the way up the front are great for day and night.  Get mostly 3-6 month sized clothes though and only a few 0-3 month clothes as most babies outgrow those after a month or so.  And steer clear of "newborn" size clothes which will only fit for a week (unless you have a premee)!

  4. Your baby will sort of just chill for the first couple of months. Get basics, babiesrus and target have some good starters lists. Get sweaters and pants, too.

  5. My baby is 3 months old, and I have to say it may depend on where you live. We live in North Carolina and my son was getting heat rash for a while, I finally quite putting him in onsies all the time and started putting him in little t-shirts and shorts. He does great in them and the heat rash is gone. He also wears overalls. I really really like jumpers though, like onsies with shorts. We switch off from day to day. Just make sure the clothes feel comfortable on inside. I got a couple of suites at my baby shower that were ruffly sewn on inside and all they do is irritate my sons skin. Good luck and have fun shopping, at 3 months he can wear whatever you put him in.

Also I have never fretted about putting stuff over his head or turning him over to button the back of shirts. It bothered him at the very beginning, but now he knows he's getting dressed and it'll be done in a bit. I figure it's one less thing to tackle later on down the road.

  6. lots of onesies!!! and if you get footsies make sure they are the ones that snap down both legs.. the ones that snap down only one leg are such a pain in the butt when changing diapers

  7. I liked putting my baby in onsies when he was a new baby, BUT, he had a lot of blow-out diapers; pulling a onsie over the baby's head with runny p**p all over is awful, especially when you're out in public.

I suggest getting button up tops or footed pajamas (if he/she is a winter baby) .. my son was a born right in the middle of summer so he wore a LOT of onsies and nothing else (I'm in California and it gets HOT.)

If you are careful about pulling the onsie over the baby's head, then the p**p won't be an issue.

  8. There is nothing wrong with shirts that pull over the head; that is a matter of preference.  Onesies and t-shirts with long pants to help keep the baby warm during the fall and winter are good.  Night shirts that are seamed at the bottom are good to keep the heat in and are still easy to change a diaper.  Get a couple of each outfit you think you will like using and as the baby gets older you will know what you like and how much your baby moves around, etc.  Enjoy your new bundle of joy.

  9. I like anything that doesn't pull over the head. My son wears lots of one pc outfits that snap up the front. The first three months they sleep a lot and p**p a lot so you want something that has easy access to the diaper.
