For the first two years of hs i got all 4.0 unweighted 4.7 weighted courses/doubling classes junior/senior level and some college mainly honors and 1 ap etc .The next two years i entered the ib program and got mostly a's and b's.Also many community hours in one place and dedicated particpation in a few clubs for 2 of my interests .Also got a 3rd place in a competition regarding one of these interest(note:my interest regards science) and entered a science fair.I also became a member of two different types of honor societies. But the only downer is the sats are like around a 660 for math 540 for reading and a 560 for writing. What kind of school can i get into?

  1. Too bad about those SATs. Ouch. Not that they're bad - they are *not* bad - but they aren't in line with your grades. And it's really your Critical Reading section that's pulled you down. If you do a test prep class, or get some test prep books, do you think you could bring that up somewhat closer to your math score?

But based on your existing GPA and SATs:

Fit schools for you would be along the lines of Syracuse, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Stony Brook, U New Hampshire, Tulane, UMass Amherst, Northeastern, Ohio State, Penn State, U Florida, U Connecticut, U Wisconsin Madison, U Illinois Urbana, etc. Strong science schools, strong overall universities.

Reach schools - where your SATs are a bit low for them, but your grades are perfect fits, and if you write a strong application, you stand a very good shot: NYU, Boston University, Rensselaer Polytechnic, Georgia Tech, etc.

You could apply to one or two Ivys, but it's likely that you won't get in. Your SATs are too low. For Stanford, for example, average SATs are in these ranges:

    SAT Critical Reading: 660 - 760

    SAT Math: 680 - 790

    SAT Writing: 660 - 760

Consider Stanford a reach school, and do apply, but you'll need to sell yourself based on everything else, not your SAT scores. But if you do that - if you can sell yourself - maybe you'd get in, but don't count on it. It's very much a reach school for you.
