What kind of communication system could you use to direct a rover on the moon?

Like the lunar x prize, how r they going to communicate with the rovers? how are they going to to direct the rocket and the landers?

  1. The propulsion units will need to be autonomous.  The 2.3-second round trip light travel-time delay is not fast enough for closed-loop control.

    Radio is the medium of choice for rover guidance: probably at least a 2 GHz carrier.  However that too will need to exploit some onboard autonomy.  It should be added, however, that the Soviets managed rover guidance in the 1970s using fairly simple radio links.

    yes, you could use lasers. this could be difficult to get right.

  3. common data/telemetry communication systems could be employed.

    without 'mission specifics', remote manipulation would be painfully

    slow. a better approach would be programmable autonomy.

  4. Radio certainly will make it there.  You could use a laser.  One advantage is that you wouldn't have to have a license.
