  1. Visit your local community offices or log on to google and search for local community services which is available in your area.

  2. go to your local library or to the police stadion red cross salvation army anything just about hospital as a volentier, you just dont get paid thats all but go anywhere and see if they need help, good luck

  3. I suppose that what is available depends on what area you live in. Around us there are a great many options, from government resources to church organizations. I would suggest inquiring at local churches, and perhaps the Salvation Army (if there is one near you). Chances are that these places will be able to refer you to other agencies. Here in New York State, we also have county run "Career Centers", or "Workforce New York" offices. While these are provided as a resource for employment, they often times have information regarding these programs as well. Other places to ask for information: social services, community action offices, and even your local city hall.

  5. Hello from Idaho,

I am a girl scout leader, the community service projects we have done are one warm coat, raising gently used or new coats for a local church and salvation army, the girls even gave some to a elementary school for any needy kids. Even if you can donate a couple of coats, that is a couple of kids you will help keep warm!                    Another one is we made lap blankets for the eldery in the assisted living and nursing homes. The folks LOVED them, especially when the kids personally went up to each person, introduced themselves and put the blanket on their lap! This helps the kids to not be "afraid" of people in wheelchairs, with walkers, etc. also helps them to be social! This was our favorite. We had one local fabric store donate some flannel to our project and another store gave us a 20% discount, one of our moms even found some new flannel at a yard sale! The girls then cut them to size and trimmed the edges(we cut 3"-4" slits on two opposite sides for a "frayed edge" look) That was it, no sewing!  Kids also like to help with BINGO, the girls do the calling! We also help hand out snacks at snack time, also fun.

Helping to serve  the meals at your salvation army is also very rewarding for you and kids. If the kids are not old enough to serve food(no special age required) they can help hand out "stuff", help set up or clean, or just to say "hi" and smile!

As far as "programs" we are just starting to collect pop top tabs for the Ronald McDonald houses, add .com for their site.

Also cellphonesforsoldiers.com collects new and used cell phones which they turn into prepaid phone cards for the military.

On a personal note, I myself am going into our elementary school and reading with the kids in the resourse room(they struggle with reading) The kids LOVE it when I come in to read with them(they read to me, I help when needed)  You are like the"aunt" you get to have fun with the kids, then the teacher gets them back.  The kids will make you feel like a million dollars, I ALWAYS leave happy!

I hope this helps, contact me if you need anything else, would like to help if i can. I love to volunteer, its the most rewarding thing I do!

  6. There is funded daycare called ACD, where you may pay a discounted rate based on family size and income - 150 Lawrence Street. I think it is actually on Lawrence between Fulton street and Willoughby street downtown Brooklyn. The Library also offer free internet and job assistance. go to the nyc.gov website and select the NY public Library for your burrough.

  7. I don't know how old you are, but there are senior centers that offer social service assistance.

If you are looking to apply for Medicaid, you can try a city hospital or go to the Medicaid office directly.

For pharmacy assistance, there is the " Partnership for Prescription Assistance."  You can call: 1-888-477-2669 to see if you qualify.

You also can contact the Dept. of Social Services in your area for additional assistance.
