Question:

What kind of component cables do I need for Hi-Def?

I am looking at a TV tuner for my computer, and my computer can run in Hi-def (720p max). The tuner can pick up HDTV signals, but only has the normal Red, Yellow, and White inputs on the sides to hook up other components. I was looking to hook up a 360 or PS3 to it, and want to play in Hi-Def. Can I play the games in ANY kind of Hi-def with only these cable inputs or do I need the progressive ones?

  1. HDMI cables wud be the best for your problem...u can get one frm a local dealer of tv or electrical shop....you can play HI DEF videos and games only if your pc has a HDMI output and monitor has a HDMI input...most of the new HD tvs has these inputs so u can connect them directly to your HDTV and play games or movies......if u dont have HDMI inputs or outputs the best u can do is optiong atleast a  S video cable...for further info contact at dixondominicpalett@gmail.com

  2. Red, yellow, white are called "compoSITE" cables and will work. Yellow is the video, red and white are the left and right speakers. Composite is analog and not the best.

I think S-video would be next up. Supposedly better than composite.

An upgrade would be "compoNENT" cables, in which the video is split into 3: red, blue, and green. You can also get the component cable with audio, which has your 3 video plugs and 2 more for left and right audio. Component is also done in analog format.

The best right now which is recommended to maximize your HD capabilities would be HDMI which carries the video and audio digitally in one cable and plug.

I and others still use the old composite cables for DVD to our HD tv and it looks great. My player doesn't have HDMI and I tried component video but for some reason the image was duotone lol. For now I have to stick with composite.

  3. If you tuner card only has the Yellow, Red and White inputs ( Composite ) then you'll only get SD - standard definition input from your 360 or PS3.

In order to make it work you'll need a tuner card or video capture card that has HDMI or DVI inputs.  The new ATI All-In-Wonder card has those.
