Crude oil is the oil that is obtained from oil wells. It comes in two types i.e., paraffin based and asphalt based. Both types are processed in the oil refinery into oil products, one of these products is diesel oil.

All crude oils will produce Diesel Fuel which has a boiling range of 150 °C to 370 °C.

It's produced by the Fractional Distillation of the crude oil and is generally about the 3rd or 4th lightest hydrocarbon mixture to come off the distillation tower.

The Control of the 'Temperature and Pressure Profiles' across the  distillation tower (Top to bottom), governs the Boiling Range and quality of the various mixtures of hydrocarbon liquids and gases produced.

The products range from the light gases (Methane to Propane) and liquids (Naphtha ..(Butane to Pentane and Hexane), which go into producing gasoline), light paraffins like Kerosene (light diesels) and Jet Fuels (highly refined diesel), Vehicle diesel fuel and gas oils (heating oils), Lubrication oils, Heavy fuel oils and asphalts (tars).

By "diesel," one assumes you mean "diesel fuel."  Various petroleum products, such as gasoline, kerosene, heating oil, asphalt, and all the others, are components of crude oil, and are separated out by a process of distillation called "cracking."  Any of those products can be cracked out of any species of crude oil that contains the right product.
