  1. Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Comtemporary, Ballet, Pointe (may take a while), Hip Hop, Krumping, Bollywood, Ballroom. Remember your dance classes may only have a few of these like Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Comtemparay or Modern, Tap and Hip Hop.

I'ver done Ballet, gymnastics and now starting Pointe.

  2. There are A LOT of dance styles.  Maybe tell us what types of dancing are offered where you'll be.  Some places have ballet, tap, jazz.  Maybe you're considering ballroom dancing or dancing that it specific to a certain country, etc.  I don't know.

These sites list all the different styles.  Pick one that sounds interesting to you and research it from there.

  3. There are heaps and heaps of dance styles. Ballet, jazz, tap, modern, contemporary, hip-hop, ballroom, Latin, swing, street, disco, bellly-dance, lyrical, waltz, JFH (jazz, funk, hip-hop), funk, R'n'B, character, demi-character, etc... try searching for some on the net, or maybe consult your dance school and ask about what styles they offer, and the differences and a basic summary.

    Good luck!

  4. Salsa is great!

  5. there are as many styles of dance as there are dancers in the world.

if you want to try a real challenge though, check out modern, or 'contemporary' dance.  i've found it to be a better workout than even Jive or Krump dancing, because it uses every single muscle group in your body.  i'm a big fan of the work of martha graham and marion rice.

your height would make it difficult for you to make any headway in ballet, but if you want to move towards competition, virtually all competitive dance is choreographed.  as you learn more movements you'll learn to improvise.  i totally wowed them when i threw some swing moves into a latin competition...
