  1. Your best bet is to be experienced at several types of dancing - then it'll be easier to cast you.

Ballet - is graceful, many of the basic moves are used in other dancing styles

Lyrical - the other poster did a great job

Jazz - if you're looking for Broadway work, jazz is what you want! :)

Tap - it can't hurt.  Some shows are ALL tap (42nd Street?), even if they're not doing a tap heavy show, you never know what you'll need. I've worked on a few shows that had tap solos....usually the person got cast for it cuz they COULD tap :p

Gymnastics - also could help.  Some shows have special parts for gymnasts and stunts, and good stunt people are hard to find :)

  2. I would say lyrical dancing, it's where you make your own moves and express every emotion inside you. Maybe have a look on you-tube and type in "lyrical solo" and you will see what i mean.

    Good Luck!

  3. I highly recommend jazz and ballet. Ballet moves are in most kinds of dance. It will teach you grace as well as good dance moves. Jazz because they use it in most shows. Also, it is the complete opposite of jazz in my opinion, so it will give you a wide range of dancing skills.
