What kind of degree does one need in order to become a teacher in the k-6 or k-12 system?

You need a BS in the field you wish to teach. You need to go through the attached teacher ed courses given at the university (if they have it). Then you'll need to send some money, 150-200, to the state in which you want to teach. This gives you the license to teach.
