What kind of degree is required to work with mentally handicapped children?

I have a while to decide what I want to do, I'm only a junior in high school, but I'm looking into working in a children's home for mentally handicapped kids. Does anyone know if that requires a special degree? Or maybe just a nursing degree?

Nursing or Medical degree is necessary but u need to show allot of interest in it also
