Question:

What kind of degree would you need to work in radio?

my dream would be to work in radio as a music director,show producer,promotions director,or program director.....i would not like to be the on air personality but i would love to be the one to put it all togther...someone said that communications would be the way to go but there are many communication degrees and im not sure which one is right? any help on this would be great...thanks

  1. OK...Here's the real deal...DO NOT....I repeat...DO NOT get a Broadcast Degree or RTF Degree. That is the worst thing you can do with the cut backs in media. I know...I work all in it. The only thing that matters is that you have experience. Start interning and working at a station NOW. The rewards will follow. Stations look for experience not degrees. For example, my boss is a Program Manager and has no degree at all, but he's worked in radio his entire life. He had parents in radio and got into the industry and stuck with it. I would say get a degree in Communication, Marketing, Political Science, or Psychology...these are fields related to broadcating and such. I would even say that with the change in technology that Computer Science would be another good field to go into. But more than anything, ya gotta get into the station and get the experience.
