What kind of difference do spikes have on a 400m dash?

like would you drop a second or two. or is there no difference frm running spikes and jus regular running shoes

There is, spikes are usually lighter, in ounces, and have better grip on the track, making it easier for you to go from one step to another, while running shoes r usually heavier, have less grip on the track, usually sliding back, making you run slower, or a few seconds off. In 400s its all about speed, the lighter you are the faster you will be. Good luck! :)
