I tape tv shows everyday. I'm tired of my vcr dvd combo player eating the VHS tapes. So, I need to know what kind of disc (DVR,etc...) to i need to tape my shows. Or, if that's possilbe. If I use it, do i just keep recording over the same area of the disc, or do i stop at the end of one day, and record the next day on the next blank area of the disc?

  1. DVR and you need a dvd player that is capable of burning on the DVD.

  2. you have two options here.

DVR - a box that records to an internal disk.  the capacity is large (likely 100+ hours) but there is a limit, and you can't take the show to another TV like with VHS.  These are likely available through you satellite or cable provider, but are also available from 3rd parties if you have Over the Air TV.

DVD Recorder - this would burn your shows to DVD disks, which are removable, so you should be able watch them on any DVD player (really old DVD players don't always work, though).  you would need to buy a supply of DVD-R or DVD-RW disks.  with RW, you can write to the same disk many times, like you can write over a VHS many times.  with R, you can only write once, but they are cheaper.
