I was thinking like a couple Tablespoons of clorox anywhere spray, but also would like to know if other people do this, my husband made a cover for it out of plywood, so we don't have to refill it everyday, we refill it about every 3-4 days, but I would like to put a little disinfectant in it especially because sometimes the neighbor kids come over. Let me know what you think! Thanks!!!

  1. I think I'm glad I'm not your kiddie, sounds horrible, bordering dangerous.  I'll bet there are a milliom bacteria in that thing.  Have them play in the yard sprinkler instead..

  2. Don't use a spray since you will aerosol the chlorine and that can cause problems if you breathe it.

Teaspoon chemistry, depending on the gallons of the pool.  Pool Chlorine is typically 12.5%, sodium hypochlorite or 10% if bought from Home Depot or Lowes to 6% or less for Chlorox from the store.  Read the lable for concentration.  Don't buy it from a pool supply place since it will be a whole lot more!

To obtain 1ppm with  12.5% Sodium Hypochlorite add 0.00111oz per gallon of pool water.  Normal concentrations are 1-3ppm with 5 max.  Adjust proportionatly for concentration and gallons and level you want in the water.  Most problems are caused by too little chlorine.  Covering pool will help keep the chlorine in the water since ultra violet rays destroy most of the chlorine in two hours.  Get a pool chlorine test kit and keep in cool dry place for maximum life.

    You're welcome!!

  3. I wouldn't worry with a cleaner at all. I would dump out old water after a few days and if there is dirt scrub it with a brush and maybe a little soap then rinse.

  4. just get in there with soap and water and a sponge and clean it out.

  5. I think they'll be fine as long as the water is still clean and they bathe after they swim. Just thoroughly clean it when you change the water.

  6. NO bleach, just dump it out everyother day and scrub it with a cleaner.. Rinse and refill..

  7. I don't think you should put anything in it as long as you change the water every few days. A little dirt never hurt anyone, and it's good to build a kids immunities.

  8. Use 10 tablespoons of bleach, I went to a pool center for my above ground pool and asked the salesperson for my smaller kiddie pool, he said use 10...

  9. A little clorox would be fine.  Not too much or it will burn their eyes.  Plain chlorine bleach is really cheap, and I think a couple of tablespoons would be plenty.  As long as there is no algae growing in the pool chlorine is probably not necessary, but it wouldn't hurt anything as long as it isn't too strong.

  10. How about salt.

  11. as long as the water is clear in a kiddy pool use nothing.  when you change the water scrub the pool with either bleach water or pinesol.  Remember to rinse well!!!!  they should be fine.
