Would my regular doctor be able to help me? Or should I see an ear nose and throat doctor? For the past 2 weeks I stop breathing about 20 minutes after closing my eyes and wake up taking a deep breath. I don't snore...I have ask, so I am not 100% it is apnea.

  1. go to your GP, and he'll recommend a specialist.

  2. You can see a lung Doctor (Pulmonologist), or a Neurologist or just a regular MD. My husband has sleep apnea and he saw a Pulmonologist first then he saw a Neurologist. Your GP can refer you to the Dr he thinks you can see. My husband would stop breathing 14 times a night for up to 45 seconds so if you think you have sleep apnea it is just checked by them doing a sleep study, usually 2 of them to be accurate.

  3. there are a variety of sleep disorders that can be easily treated by a sleep therapist, after a sleep specialist has analyzed your needs. try a look in the phone book or on the net with a google search, for sleep therapists, sleep deprivation treatments, sleep clinics an ear, nose, and throat specialist can examine you for potential physical problems in breathing, while you are sleeping. there are physical anomalies that can cause breathing problems when you are laying down, restricting your breathing. check it out with both. good luck .

  4. See your doc. He/she will refer you to an ENT specialist (ear, nose, throat) if that's necessary. Are you overweight? Obesity can cause the 'uvula' (I think that's what it is - at the back of your throat) - to become enlarged.
