What kind of dog should I buy?

My wife and I have wanted to buy a small puppy for a while and I think we may buy a litle guy soon. We live in a 1/1.5 large (1000 sqft) condo in a pet friendly building in Miami Beach, and I am self employed so I can be home with the puppy a lot of the time. What kind of dogs should we buy and why? Thanks.

  1. idk, why don't you do some research and find one that fits your lifestyle. We do not know what kind of person you are and what kinds of dogs you would rather not have. Chose yourself and all will go well.

  2. in my opinion you need to find a dog you  are compatible with. Small dogs are cute but they require lots of exercise because they are hyper. Also if you don't want alot of pet hair in your house then you should find a dog that doesn't shed. Shelters are a very good decision, but don't just go there and make a quick decision. Think about how much time you can play, walk, and train them. Also you want to get a dog who fits your life style so everybody gets along. If you can tell me a couple details then maybe I can help. Small is a very broad range.

  3. I'd go with a corgi. whaterver you deciede to do, DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT by a rescue. for the most part, those type dogs need so much work, its better to let a pro dog trainer get him/her. but def. get a book about dogs to look through. Find a dog that you like to look at and doesn't reqire a lot of exersise. When you do get your little guy, make sure to get him to puppy school. You and he will be trained, and you'll have a happy family dog.

  4. Please, adopt a dog from the animal shelter. Save a life! The animal shelter has all kinds of great dogs. All my pets were from the shelter and also my best friends. I know this sounds corny, but you will know what it feels like when you adopt.

  5. Parti poodles are great! We have one and shes the greatest thing. i would get a female though because males could possibly "hump" you and other objects. but not always. you and your wife should sit down and go through all small breeds . Really u cant expect to find a breed asking on here. I would love to help you out more but none of us live with you , and know your lifestyle. good luck

  6. Your best answer would be to read several books on dogs, training, keeping, breeds, etc.

  7. You don't give enough information to be able to suggest any breed of dog. You should go to the AKC website and research the breeds, and find out what they were bred for, and how they act and respond and go from there. Being home, and no dog experience, gives no information at all.

Don't buy a mixed breed dog thinking that it's a real breed. All these high priced mixes people are selling and sickly and die young. Bad temperament and very hard to train. Stick with a purebred, or rescue a dog from the shelter.

  8. Buy anything with poodle in it so it doesn't malt. I suggest a moodle. (maltese + toy poodle) We have one and he doesn't drop hair and he doesn't smell. Hope this helped :)

  9. Sounds like you can offer a dog a great home! I know a lot of other people have suggested this, but I really do think that adoption sounds great in your case.

  10. I think you should buy a Shih-Tzu...they are cute and cuddly:)

(I really think you should by a Collie, because that is what I have, but given your situation...get a Shih-Tzu)

  11. a besenji, their cute they have pointed ears and a curled tail and a medium size.also since you have  time to devote to it they probably wont live up to their mischeveies ways.

  12. one from a shelter

  13. I hate to be the one to say it (because lots of people will), but since you don't really seem to have much criteria listed other than it should be small, why not go to a shelter?

  14. dash-hound no doubt bout it they r also called "dash-hounds , dixon, hot dogs, dotson"  they don't shed they r very loving and they r well behaved   o and  i prefer CKC  :) hope i helped

  15. i say...

    1. coton de tulear- great, cute, healthy and lovable dogs

    2. pug- how can you not want one?

    3. min pin- healthy, sweet, and it'll make you feel a bit more tough when you walk it lol

i suggest you look on petfinder.com or your local shelter, you can find some great dogs there!
