I would prefer a smaller dog since we have a teeny tiny back yard.

We have 3 kids in the family 8,13, and 14.

The mother works from home from 8am-4pm online.

The kids go to school from 7am-3pm.

I would like a lap dog that likes to cuddle with me after school.

[me, the 13 year old is getting this dog]

Uhhmmm does not have a tendancy to attack strangers.

Can get along with a cat. And won't mind being left alone for maybe an hour or two a day. Thanks for all help!

  1. Most small dogs have big personalities and will demand attention when they want it. Terriers are more prone to be protective of their house and master but if you get a dog from a puppy you can train it to do just about anything. I think Shitzus are great lap dogs. This breed is generally very friendly to strangers but can be quite hyper. Mini Poodles are very smart and easy to train but may yap your ear off. Boston Terriers are mild mannered and usually calm. I wouldnt reccomend one dog over an other or rule out any one dog. Before you get the dog just be aware of how much responisbility they are. No matter what dog you decide on be prepared to dedicate plenty of money and time to the dogs care. If you treat the dog well it will reward you with loyalty and companionship that is worth much more than the money and time you put into it.

  2. i would also recommend getting a dog from a shelter, if you have the time to work with it, because some shelter dogs do have some behaviorlal issues but are easily corrected with time and patience, and you would be saving a life.

  4. Go to your local pound and see which dog you fall in love with, that is the one that would suit you best. Since someone is almost always home and there are several people to play with it, almost any dog would do well with your family.

  5. Try out this website,

It will help you to choose a dog that best fits your lifestyle.

  6. I would recommend adopting a dog from a shelter if your interested in getting a new dog. You might have to check the shelter often to find the right dog for your family. I think its best to adopt because your saving a dog from an ugly life in a doggy jail. If your interested in a pure breed there are rescues for just about every breed. there is an on-line quiz that can help you narrow down you options at dogbreedinfo.com
