What kind of dress should I wear and how should it look?

My freshman convocation for college is tomarrow. I already have a dress but Im thinking of returning it because i dont think its dressy enough. It is a formal ceremony and I would like some examples and pictures of what the dress should look like. Im not asking for an exact dress, im just looking for help and suggestions. Please include pictures if you can.

but these are just examples. i think you get what i'm talking about. since you're trying to look formal, wear a long a flowy dress.

a solid colour long flowy dress? cause usually solid colours make people think its more dressy

a solid non flashy color it can be any fabric preferably silk satin something as such make sure its something that you like and that its something you can move in
