I have an old TV and charter cable TV, what kind of dvd recorder/player do I need to buy, what specs to I need to know. I am on a tight budget, so just want to record TV shows so I can watch them later,, thanks

  2. I agree with the first poster.

    If you are really looking to record and watch tv on your own schedule, you should look into getting a DVR.

    A DVR is like a DVD recorder or a VCR except that recording to a disc or tape you are recording to a hard drive which is much MUCH easier and faster really.

    Instead of having to label and organize your tapes and discs you'll have a really nice menu that has all of your shows organized by time or title.  You'll be able to quickly skip around within a show or pause it or save it to tape or disc if you really want to save it for a long time.

    I like the Tivo, but there are other DVR's out there.

    Your cable/satellite company probably has a DVR option for anywhere from $5 - $20/month.

    Tivo will run you about $13/month after you spend between $60 - $600 on a recorder, depending on the options you want - dual tuner, HD, etc.
