I am going camping in a month and need some ideas for foods. We will be gone for 5days, and the only thing i can think of is hamburgers, hotdogs, and sandwiches. Can anyone think of anything else?

  1. You could also try a great dessert.  Many years ago, as a boy scout, we used to make a peach cobbler.

Canned peaches went into a greased Dutch Oven.

You could use any canned fruit you as a replacement (e.g. apple pie fillings, cherry pie fillings, etc.).

Then using a Bisquick mix, make a biscuit-like dough.  Spoon this dough on top of the fruit.

Then bake in the dutch oven (sitting on coals and coals on top of the lid).

    Something relatively easy and different.

This can turn a relatively bland meal into a great one.....it's also a great treat for children.

  2. dont forget the granola bars  trail mix  things like this

  3. Pretty much anything in a can. Rice is pretty easy. And even noodles all you got to do is boil water and lettem cook.

  4. Breakfast burritos are good in the morning.

  5. BEANS!!!! how cud u 4get?lol um sweetcorn...ham slices and cheese an stuff, oh biscuits and bars....mmmm

  6. pasta and rice are great camping staples.  hard cheese that won't spoil is good to make mac n cheese or as a snack.  are you backpacking or staying in one spot?  if you're staying in one spot, pack along some watermelons, take some cereal and milk and bagles.  try to make your own pizza or cinnamon rolls on a stove or over a fire, just bring tomato sauce, yeast, flour, salt, and a cookbook.  make chilli with real meat or chilli flakes (not bad, actually).  if you're bakpacking you can get all dehydrated food.  sausage is a great backpacking food cuz it won't go bad.  you can make your own cornbread if you want to.  we take alfredo sauce, canned tuna, and pasta noodles and mix it all together.  sounds weird but its great.  take trail mix for snacks and granola bars.  hashbrowns with cheese and spice are always great in the morning, so bring some dehydrated hash browns.  you can make pancakes, if you bring eggs you can make omeletts.  you can essentially make anything that you can make at home on your stove top.  if you have a cooler, you really can make anything.  if you're backpacking, just take the dehydrated version of your best meals and take some spices with you for flavoring.  black bean flacks aren't bad, or you could bring canned beans, corn, tortillas, rice and make burritos.  powdered veggie burger is terrible, never eat it.  oatmeal is another great staple cause you can make breakfast or cookies with it.

i think mre's taste terrible and are really bulky and not satisfying cuz they're cold but they are easy.   i think camping stove cooking is easier than campfire cooking

  7. Why not get some MREs!!! everything you need for the meal is already included, and they come with their own heaters.  Plus you can mix and match with your friends and make some great recipes, they are actually very good!!  You can get the MREs and the recipes at

    survivalgearsource.com.   Have fun camping!!

  8. Are you alone or with others, kids? Will you be backpacking or have a campfire? it all depends.

Assuming you'll be camping with a fire and multiple people:

camp spagehti is great. you can put hamburger and all kinds of stuff in the sauce to simmer on the fire for a long time - it's great!

camp chili - same idea as the spegehti sause. just mix everything together and let it simmer.

camp breakfast - bacon, eggs, pancakes...all great!

hobo dinners. burger, potatos, onion, carrots, seasoning, a little butter wrapped up in tinfoil pouches and put on the coals.

    grilled cheese sandwiches

  9. what i do for breakfast is make omelets.  Get a pot of water boiling, Use gallon ziploc freezer bags, add whatever you want in your omelet into the bag and seal it, drop in the water and should be done in about 10 to 15 minutes, longer with the more eggs and ingredients you add.
