  1. high school diploma or GED and 6 month EMT course at community college.  some pre-reqs are CPR and vaccinations.

  2. In mhy state it is generally a 1 semester course-available both in colleges and other (hospital) places-they don't necessarily require a HS diploma-but if you are looking for a paid job-they probably will.....

  3. Different states have different rules, and many colleges draw the programs out longer than necessary.

The EMT-A/EMT-Basic Program that I took was 160 hours of classroom and lab instruction, followed by a State Board to be licensed.  The Board was the easiest part of the whole joke--ummm, class.

When I took my Paramedic, it was an Associate's Degree at a Community college...four semesters, with clinicals over the summer and during the last two semesters.  The Board was, again, easy.

Forthe basic EMT, you'll get to learn basic first aid and CPR, how to get someone out of a car or house, how to move injured people, etc.  The hardest part is remembering, when performing CPR, to yell for help after giving a rescue breath...you ARE the help.

  4. You would have to go to college and take EMT course.. 2 semesters and then pass the national registry test
