What kind of eggs are these?

i was weeding out my hostas and found underneath these black eggs, they look almost like charcoal, but they are most definitely eggs, what kind are they and should i leave them alone????

Can you post a picture link?  Hakone chickens lay black eggs.  Do your neighbors have chickens?
