What kind of environment(amount of moisture, amount of intensity of light, etc) does plant/tree likely to be if a plant has trifoliate leaves?

  1. I know two trifoliate plants.  Laburnum have alternate compound leaves with a covering of fine white hairs giving the leaves a distinct grey-green appearance. These are small trees that are legumes so are adapted to soils with low nitrogen.

    The second are the Cytisus genus or the broom who are related to Laburnum. I grow the Atlas Broom Cytisus battandieri that has silky covers of hair on its leaves and is deciduous. Other brooms are evergreen and not hairy.

    All of these are native to Europe & Asia. The hair covering indicates they are adapted to conserve water as many Mediterranean plants do.
