She does show jumping and dressage, not sure about cross country...

Thanks!

  1. Hello,

Are you in for a shock, you have money right?

It is not like plain old ordinary horse back riding that is for sure. Everything costs a arm and leg and your g/f will have to keep up with the Jones.

Good luck, I really mean that!

  2. Starting from top to bottom, she will require a riding helmet only from a reputable shop and no bike helmets as the fall from a horse is greater and bike helmets do not meet safety requirements.  She will need a chest protector if she is jumping.  Gloves that are snug-fitting and thin for maximum sensation, I would recommend pimple gloves which have a non-slip grip palms which stop reins from sliding through sweaty hands, jodphurs are tight-fitting pants, almost like leggings but they have all different types, some have suede on the inner knee, for gripping the fender of the saddle, and some have suede covering the inside of the jodphur, they are really a personal choice as some like no suede so they can rise up for the jump without any friction.  If she is riding dressage she will want the suede as it will help her seat.  Next are the boots,(will it ever end?my mothers' catchcry!)

All footwear must have a heel to stop foot from going through the iron/stirrup resulting in the rider being dragged, not a good sight!, so that's a big NO to sneakers, tennis shoes, etc.

Riding boots vary in style, price, and materials used, helpful tip, wear pair of knee-high over socks will get boots off easier and pouring a little amount of baby powder in boots won't go astray also.  Clothing for dressage showing can actually make your wallet start to cry!  All these products can be purchased from tack stores and or saddleries. I hope that this has helped you a bit and please email me any other questions.

  3. Get her a gift certificate to your local tack shop.  Trust me, clothing is very specific and there are certain brands she probably sticks to (like Taylored Sportsman which is really expensive).  I would by she show clothes unless she's there to pick it our yourself.  No offense or anything, show clothes are really serious.  A gift certificate is your best bet.

  4. Here are the basics:

    Saddle

    Bridle

    Saddle Pad

    Girth

    Breeches/Jods

    Riding boots

    Chaps

    Helmet

    Whip

ALL of which can be found at ANY of these websites, Im listing a few different ones so you can have more selection and price variation:

    www.statelinetack.com

    www.doversaddlery.com

    www.horseloverz.com

    Hope that helps =]

  5. If you go to Yahoo and search on Horse clothing women or something like that you find sites like this one:

    http://www.victorycanter.com/Ladies-Appa...

They sell clothing and equipment for people who ride horses.

I thought jodhpurs were the pants. I think they have some leather patches to prevent chaffing where the legs rub against the horse.

  6. aw! johdpurs are boots. culottes must be pants. google them!
