I agree with the liquid liner.

Be careful though- sometimes it can look messy. Try to get one that has a pen applicator (instead of pulling the brush right out like mascara). You'll need some practice.

Put some neutral eyeshadow all over your lid so the eyeliner can smooth on straight. Go as close to your lashes as possible. Also, try using small short strokes and joining them like a dashed line until you get the hang of it.

For colour, don't do black, it's too harsh! i love plum, or brown or even a smoky grey. For a smoky eye, take a matching eyeshadow colour and eyeliner brush and go over the liner to soften it. Use this for the bottom of your eye too. Connect the top and bottom lines, and voila!
