What kind of file do I rip a dvd in to watch it on a dvd player?

I'm using Free DVD Ripper 2.25. I know how to rip and burn but the only problem is getting started and I don't know what file I need to rip a dvd in. I could really use the help.

  2. DVD player could only read the ''dvd formats''..The disc could not be read unless you've got  the right format.Or you only got a disc with DVD data but not a DVD disc. .

    I use xilisoft DVD creator to burn dvd.It could converter video formats AVI, MPEG, WMV, DivX, DV, VOB to DVD and burn DVD movie playable on portable or home DVD player

    After you download and installed it . Add  your files and then choose to burn your video files into disc/iso/folder.

    I think it is quite easy and for my experience, it rarely make a mistake and crush.
