Our baby goldfish just died. My daughter won him at a carnival eight days ago. I bought him a 1.5 gallon aquarium to start out with and I was planning to move him to a larger aquarium in a few months. I am planning to buy a new fish....Could use some help and ideas.

  1. well since 1.5g isnt very big i would try a small fish or i would get a bigger aquarium to house bigger and more facinating fish!! or try different animals like a ferret!!!!

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  2. A betta is about the only thing that will survive in a 1.5 gallon.

  3. nothing should. its too small and inhumane. take it back and get at least a 10 gallon.

  4. the best fish would probably be a betta, or mabye a guppy or 2

  5. beta fish

  6. NONE. Even 10 gallons is hardly good enough. I remember reading the rule of thumb is one fish per 10 gallons. Goldfish are the last fish to put in a 1.5 gallon aquarium as they produce a lot of waste which rapidly raises the ammonia. Though I don't encourage it, if you must get a fish for a 1.5 gallon aquarium a betta would be the best choice. Bettas live in low-oxygen water conditions and have a special organ called the labyrinth that allows them to breathe atmospheric air. They adapt to smaller areas better than other fish. Watching a betta build a bubble nest is entertaining too.

  7. bettas are good beginner fish. I started off my fishtank when i was 10 with a betta, and i then moved in to a 10 gallon tank a few years later

  8. Nothing. It always amazes me when people say they are going to buy bigger tanks for their fish , why not buy the bigger one first  since u will more than likely  buy another goldfish.

  9. I am assuming you are new to fish keeping  In this case here are a few other fish you can try.  Danios, guppys, plecos, catfish or if you got extra time and energy maybe even a small child if kept as a sole fish. For any of these however I would recomend you get at least a 20-30 gallon tank kit. You really need a filter, heater, lights. Depends really on how much you wanna put in but about 80 bucks for a 20 gallon kit online (includes all of the items above)  and you could be well on your way.

If you stay with that little bowl I would say beta is the clear winner all the way. It would be the most bang for your buck. Its a beautifull fish, and can survive in that small small space. Before you buy anything research its temperment, water paramiters and the living conditions it needs first. Also if you buy a real tank look up the nitrogen cycle and how to set up your new tank.  Good Luck

  10. I wouldn't get a betta, they seem pretty boring.  Goldfish are pretty hardy fish and can live in pretty bad water, like without a filter or heater.  A goldfish is never a really bad choice.

  11. A betta fish or a couple neon tetras!

  12. Definitely a betta.

But since they are kinda boring, try purchasing another goldfish for your daughter.

  13. Does your tank have a silent air pump or filter? If not i would recommend you to get a betta, they get oxygen from water surface and can be kept in a wide range of temperature. Betta are motionless in small tanks and active in bigger tanks. You can also get live bearers such as guppy, molly, or platy, they can be kept in small tanks.

If you get a bigger tank, go buy a cichlid, they are so active, always following you and dominant fish that loves to fight. Flowerhorn and green terror are my current favorite fishes. You can keep them in a small tank for few months and then move to a bigger tank. When i had my flowerhorn it was 1 inch, one month later it grew to 3 inches, so i moved it out from a 2.5 gallons acrylic bowl and moved to to 29 gallons glass tank. Research before you buy a fish and have fun.
