I have a 55 gallon aquarium and have a few comet goldfish. What kind of fish will live with them and wont die from the ammonia that the goldfish put off? I have a filtration system that is for a 100 gallon tank and I have a carbon filter, a bio max filter, and a ammonia filter. I also have a few apple snails and some new baby apple snails. I also have quite a few live plants too.

  1. koi :)

  2. Well, a 55 gallon is really only big enough for one or two comets.

Nothing else can really go with goldfish because they require different temperature requirements. Stick with your snails and the fish you have now.

[also, goldfish don't give off any more ammonia than other fish of their size, it's a common misconception]

  3. well it's probably best if you get another type of goldfish because goldfish live in cold water and a lot of fish don't

  4. It is not that goldfish can't live with others its that goldfish like cold water and most tropicals do not.Anything under 70 degrees for tropicals is borderline too cold for them to live and stay healthy.Sorry.

  5. White cloud minnows, Some will say zebra danios and guppies can handle temps in the mid 60's but I would just go with the minnows, goldfish may try and eat any fish like that that you add to your tank, something to keep in mind.

Koi need a 1000 gallons....you cannot keep a koi in a tank, they must be in a pond.

55 gallons is plenty for 2  comet goldfish.

  6. None.  Your tank is full with the goldfish.  They will get big and eat the smaller coldwater species anyway.  NO KOI.  They need 250 gal per.

  7. try some koi they would get along
