In your opinion, what fish would make the best household pet? I'm considering getting a fish, but I'm still undecided about the type I would like to get.

  1. It depends on how much room you have.

If not alot of room then I would go with a betta. As long as you have them in the proper tank (5g heater filtered) then they are very energetic and interactive with you.

If you have room then goldfish. I just love goldfish they are very social fish and always greet you at the tank and do what I call a food dance.

I have both Betta's and Goldfish and I love them because they come in so many shapes and sizes, each one is different.

I have a 20g divided tank with four Betta's, I also have a 65g goldie tank that I am planning on upgraded to a 120g

Each and every one of my fish, and snails are different.

That is my opinion, but you just have to look and see what you have room for and what you like to look at.

    Research, research research :)

  2. 1. Any fish you want to get will usually be a great addition to the home. Fish are very aesthetic as long as you keep them healthy and the tank clean.

    2. When you get fish, it's quite a responsibility. You have to be willing to clean the tank regularly, administer medicine if needed, etc. It will take up some of your time.

    3. Do your research before figuring out what fish to buy, and what kind of tank to put them in. I would not suggest anything smaller than a ten gallon tank. That would give you a wider selection of fish to choose from, without being too pricey. Don't put anything in a bowl, it's not good for the fish. Don't put betas in anything smaller than a 2.5 gallon aquarium, if someone tells you they like those conditions they're uninformed. They are miserable, and their lifespan, color, and activeness show to it. Betas can be kept with a good number of other fish as long as the tank is at least 10 gallons.

That's my point on it. Good luck, and do your research beforehand.

My first tank was a 16 gallon tank.

    1 male beta

    5 neon tetras

    3 corydoras

    a couple ghost shrimp

That's a pretty good starter tank I think. Throw in some decorations and a plant and you're ready to go.

EDIT: Also, don't skimp out on water conditioner, a heater, and especially a filter. Those are necessities, and not add-ons. Don't mix brackish and fresh water fish. AND let the tank cycle for about 2 weeks before you put anything in. If you need more information on what cycling is, google what is tank cycling, or how do I cycle my aquarium, etc.

  3. Goldfish are the hardiest. Tropical fish need tanks with special salt and they can die if they are too cold.

  4. it depends on the goldfish you get but most goldfish need a 20gal tank. i like tropical community fish. once you learn how to take care of them they become fun to have and they're really colorful and you can get a bunch of different kinds.

  5. goldfish is the best

  6. anykind of freshwater sharks you can buy..

    they look amazing!

  7. You should get a beta they are really pretty easy to take care of fish. They don't like to have other fish in there bowl and you can just put them in a nice clear face and they are happy are ever. They are sooooooo pretty u should get one! The male fish are alot more pretty!

  8. African Cichlids

  9. danios

they need to school in groups of 6+ and need 2 gallons per fish

  10. For starters, you should get 3-5 neon tetras, with some fancy guppies, and zebra danios. Also 4 Peppered Cory Cats ( or Corydoras) would be good. But, the thing is about fancy guppies, they can multiply very quickly. They're livebearers so they give birth to live young. They multiply so fast sometimes, it's pretty much like saying " Just Add Water"!!!

I hope that gave you a few ideas. Look at a local pet store and ask about them and really think about if you would like a certain kind of fish. You can also do some research on them so you know what they can and can't live in, what goes well with them, what foods they can eat, ect.

Good luck! Have fun picking them out!! =D

  11. oscars will get huge i mean hugeyou have to constantly change the water in the tank because it get dirty very fast and get a bigger tank every 6 months but they are really cool fish

  12. goldfish are nice and easy but tetras are also cool bettas are without a dought the coolest and dont need any more than 2 gallond to live in

  13. Fish can't be petted.

so not a very good household pet.

Get a budgie. They are fairly easy to keep as long as your cage is large enough.

They can be taught to speak as well.
