I want to update the floors in my house. I live in a cottage that my grandfather designed and built. I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to put wood floors in the house since the entire house is already made of wood. Also can I put wood over the tile that is in the house since the tile is flat? Any recomendations on real wood, vinyl, lenolium?

  1. well as you seem to live in a older house it would be most wisley to have floorboards but id depends because some cottages look good with capret

  2. A great website for flooring is http://www.flooringtotal.com.  You could check it out and see if it gives you any ideas.  I think wood floors would be adorable in your cottage!  Have you seen those ads in magazines about Armstrong floors- it looks like wood floors but it really isn't- so you could look into those as well.

  3. Wood is always a great choice for an older home, especially a cottage. Cottages are characterized by their handmade/handcrafted charm so a natural product is great.

If you don't want he expense or maintenance of hardwood, the click in slats of laminate also come in real prefinshed hardwood.

As a designer though, I would keep the integrity of the house and match the original wood floors.

  4. what about the laminate click in floor boards?

i just put them through my house they look good (real) and easy, you could probably do it yourself.

  5. Help the environment and have bamboo flooring installed. It's a great material, and updated. Nothing wrong with updating an old house, just keep up the character of it.

  6. You can install wood over vinyl tile., get a jamb cutter to make it easier.

  7. I agree with the girl who said click in floor boards. They're great and easy.
