What kind of flowers do I get for a grand opening of a clinic?

A close family friend will be having a grand opening party, what would be an appropriate gift? I'm thinking of getting flowers, what would be the "normal" thing to get? (what kind of flowers, plants, etc?)

As for plants, something that doesn't really pollinate -- maybe an ivy on a trellis, or a Coleus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleus which don't need a lot of sun and do pretty well indoors.
