What kind of flowers?

My boyfriend is very fond of blue glass and at a local antique place I found a valse that he really liked. I want to get it for him for his birthday but what would an appropriate flower be to put in it? I didn't want to put an overly girly flower in it. Any suggestions on a more masculine plant to put in the valse? Thanks!

calla lilies are simple, elegant and definitely not frilly.  Daisies are just plain cheerfull, roses are romantic.
