  1. LM Farms Hamster Food.  You can buy it at Petco.  I like LM Farms more than KT b/c there's an ingredient in Kaytee that can cause cancer in small animals.  (I'm not trying to say they're awful but just like eating stuff that's known to cause problems in people, sometimes it's just better to be safe.)  Put it in the freezer overnight to kill off any bug eggs and than put it into an airtight container.  All seed foods (small animals or bird food) are susceptible to these moth-like bugs.  A 2lb bag will probably last a couple months.  Also give your hamster fresh fruit/veggies when you can.  (Finely chopped apples, cabbage, oranges, and dehydrated bananas.)  I'm also hooked on a treat called Yoggies for my guys.  I have never had a hamster not take the fruit flavored ones out of my hand from day one.  I call it the cocaine of the hamster world.  Just limit to one a day or they'll get pudgy.

  2. There are rat food in the supermarket suitable for all the Rodents. Or you can buy on-line in amazing.com . Don't give them your food because the nutrition they need are not totally the same with ours.

When I feed Chinese Dwarf Hamsters in the lab, I always give them  rat food, and they all grow up well.
