  1. you can go a formal as you want, any in any color too. the point is to have fun and enjoy.  I would not go with prom style frilly formal more the classy formal or even semi-formal.

I myself have a 7day booked and have 2 formal nights, and have been on 2 other cruises

I personally love velvet so that is what I will be going with one night  black semi-formal with a red satin blouse, and tha second night a white lacy formal or blue velvet taffeta, will probably bring both and decide there, it is good to have a secondary option

  2. Wow, I am twice as old as you are and never been able to make a cruise as of yet. How great for you :)

As far as the dress code goes, from what I heard it's usually pretty laid back and informal, beside the Captain's Dinner. However, if you would like to look for evening wear, less is  always more in this case. The "little black dress" is always a grand idea and you'll be most comfortable, beside you can always change it up in so many ways and wear it later too. With a blazer, with a shawl, with different belts and jewelry. Totally up to you. And the "little black dress" is always classy. Just make sure it's not too low cut or too short, if you want to achieve a classy look. If you want to be s**y and classy at the same time, you may want to find something with side slits and a low back. For example, one that is almost neck high in the front and then goes way down, almost bare back, in the rear. You can wear it with pearls for the super classy look, or with nice yellow gold or white gold jewelry for a more contemporary look. A long rhinestone necklace with rhinestone dangle earrings  is a fun and young way to look hot yet adds a touch of class too. Then a floral silk shawl, either big enough to be draped over the shoulders or to tie it around the waist for a different look. High heels or sandals can change the look too. Either a silver or gold pair or the classic black pumps will be fine.  Then there are those that you tie up above your ankle and voila, yet another look. Or with a colorful bolero short jacket over it.

If money is not an object, get several different dresses, but don't overdo it either.

Have an awesome time on your cruise and boy, do I wish I'd be there with you. Do you need an old lady chapperone by any chance? :) LOL, just kidding. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to contact me again. Sincerely, MsB.

  3. Check out the cocktail gowns at Macy's. They weren't expensive (they were having a big clearance last month) and I got a VERY nice brown one that I can wear again there for $30!!

  4. Cruises are bright and full of life (and food). I would pick something short and blue. Or...you can enver go wrong with a little black dress. I had a cotton LBD on the cruise I went on, and I fit in just fine.

  5. Get something that covers you from your shoulders to your knees, many of the elder women (and not so elder) dress very formal, so you don't want to go out there looking scandolous with a sleeveless top and a mini skirt... stick to "the little black dress" idea... also, wear something that you would want to take pictures in, as there are photographers galore during formal night. Last thing you wanna do is come back and be like "What da h**l was I thinkin!"... the whole formal thing is a little overrated, but after your first cruise you learn not to dress up too much...  hope this helps... =O)
