Okay, I know it's dumb, but after 1 and 1/2 years, I just realized the purple/maroon trees in our yard have FRUIT on them. I'm not an ag. geek, my allergies keep me at bay from any growing thing...minus humans.

It's growing year round in the Central Valley, California (desert, basically).

Here are some pics I just took of it:

The inside flesh is a red color now, tho a few weeks ago it was yellow.

Looks and smells like a cherry, but I'm too paranoid to taste it until I know EXACTLY what it is.

THANKS!

  1. It's a plum tree with plum fruit on it.

Read this and look at the different pictures for the particularly agriculturally useful plum this is.

  2. Yes, its a plum tree. Taste, you'll like!

Word to ponder, poisons are alkaline in nature much of the time. Bitter and acrid is a warning to you. Your plums are going to be sweet and delicious. Who would plant poison fruit in their yard?

Out of curiousity I found its name on Wikipedia and its a "Cherry Plum" (Prunus cerasifera) "Myroblan" or "Purple Leaf Plum".

  3. It looks like a plum tree.
