  1. The same kind of gas that goes in your car, except it is always more when you buy it at the dock, a lot more, another rip-off.

  2. if it is gasoline then a regular grade fuel. if it contains ethanol, you should add a water preventive solution. there are very good fuel discussions on Mercruiser.com.

  3. if it is a 4-cycle, then gas only-it is easy to find out, if it has a dip stick to check the oil in the crank case, it is 4 cycle.

  4. Typically, I/O engines use straight gas rather than a mix.  As stated above, if it has a dipstick, it's straight gas.

Here's a couple of other pointers:

If you're going to do a lot of slow speed puttering, such as fishing/trolling, you may want to consider using a high octane fuel instead of regular.  Slow speeds will create a lot of carbon build up in the cylinders and high octane gas will help offset this.

Beware of gas with ethanol in it.  There have been a rash of fuel tank repairs happening recently in boats with fibreglass tanks built into the hull.  It seems that the use of ethanol may be breaking down the tanks.  If you have a metal tank, there should be no problem.
