I'm debating whether or not to buy this 2000 Isuzu Rodeo I found on Craig's list. I was drawn to it because it's a 4cyl, 2WD and a manual 5spd; which I figured equaled good gas mileage. So I go and do a Yahoo! search, and the only site I can find is Fueleconomy.gov, and they say that the vehicle only gets 21 mpg highway. I don't understand how this could be possible from a car with 4cyl, 2wd, a manual transmission, and is the same car as the Passport; which is a Honda, and Honda's are famous for their great gas mileage.

In fact, that same site said that a 6cyl, 4wd, auto, Jeep Grand Cherokee only gets one less mile to the gallon. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!?!?! Please tell me this is misinformation, because I really want this car.

Thanks a lot, Yahoo people.

if driven conservatively and tuned properly.

for a mid size suv with only 2.3, i4 engine pushing almost 150bhp, @ 2.5tons, the shell and frame of the car would be a little heavy in power to weight ratio. that means you gotta give more gas from acceleration until it goes through the gears and the car is in flight to conserve gas.

the same engine is in the honda accord but the accord is at least 1000lbs lighter. it does a whole better in mpg and acceleration.

the jeep with the v6 has enough power and torque to get it up to speed with same or less amount of gas. in the long run it is a lot more thirsty than th i4.
