What kind of gift do you buy a godfather?

I've asked my cousin to be my daughter's godfather and she is getting baptized in a week. What kind of gift do you buy the godfather for the occassion?

  1. Frankly, you don't have to buy him anything.  Asking him to be the godfather of your child is a huge compliment.  I think taking him and your immediate family out for a nice brunch or lunch after the service would be nice.  In my opinion, giving an actual  "gift" kind of commercializes the occasion. Anyway, it is about your daughter, not him.


  2. Hmm, I have been Godmother to 7 of my nieces. I have not received a gift of any kind --nor did I expect one.

    However, I think it's very kind of you to buy a gift for your cousin. I suggest a nice photo of your daughter in a beautiful frame as a gift. Perhaps in her Baptismal gown.


  3. i always thought the baptised child was the only one that got gifts my son is being baptised in september the bill is already coming to nearly a grand with the party and everything dont tell me i have to shell out for pressies for the god parents aswell
