I'm going to be reseeding between my walk and curb. I live next to a school, so when the plows come by, they put extra salt and sand on the roads.

  1. Salt would be the enemy here. It will be hard to keep grass growing year after year, with heavy influxes of sodium. This will also build up in your soils making it tougher to get grass to root deeply.

There are salt resistant grasses, but they don't fair very well in northern climates.

But for a good grass, look for a mix of Bluegrass, Rye and Fescue.

Might be wise to speak to a landscape professional in your area, or contact a professional landscape supply company like John Deere Landscapes.

    Good Luck!

  2. I agree with Grain and Grit.  St Augustine performs well in warm coastal areas by being salt tolerant, but I doubt it would grow where snow is a concern.  Check with your local landscapers or good garden centers.

  3. salt and sand  should not harm the grass
